Monthly inventory storage
Cubic feet per unit × units stored × rate per cubic foot0.12 × 1,200 × $0.78 = $112.32Cubic feet come from the packaged unit's dimensions in inches: length × width × height ÷ 1,728. The rate depends on the size tier and the month, and it is higher from October to December. Amazon publishes the current rates in Seller Central's FBA fee pages; work your own number out with the storage fee calculator.
The aged inventory surcharge
Stock stored longer than a set number of days pays an extra monthly charge on top of storage, rising with age. It replaced the old long-term storage fee. FBA Inventory in Seller Central shows the age of your units and what the surcharge will be.
Read it per unit sold
A storage bill means little on its own. Divide it by the units you sold in the month and add the result to your profit calculation as an other per-unit cost. A slow seller's storage per unit can be larger than its referral fee.
How to lower storage fees
- Send less, more often. Size shipments to a few months of sales, not a year.
- Shrink the package. Cubic feet are the multiplier; a smaller box lowers storage and can drop the fulfillment fee tier too.
- Clear slow stock before it ages. A price cut, a removal order or a liquidation can cost less than months of surcharge.
- Plan Q4 inventory to sell in Q4. The higher rate applies to everything stored, not only what sells.
